Career Success

INJAZ-7-1024x685Career Success teaches students the 16 key skills that will help them in their work regardless of the career that they will choose. This program, delivered in 8 sessions of one-hour-and-a-half allows them to know themselves better, identify their own talents, assess and develop their skills and eventually find their path. Through fun and diverse teaching materials, students have a pleasant time while learning a very practical way to write a resume, manage problems, make decisions, negotiate or prepare for an interview.

JA Career Success is a program that teaches students to better know themselves, identify their talents, assess their skills and find their way in their future careers.

  • Session 1: Introduction

    Students learn about the 16 success skills and what they exactly are. Then, they analyze some resumes in working groups to identify the candidates that they will hire if they are recruiters.

    Learning Outcomes:

    Students will be able to:

    • Identify essential business skills.
    • Evaluate their personal skills.
    • Explore the possibilities to combine their skills with their dreams, their values and their goals.

  • Session 2: Listening Skills

    Students participate in a role-play to develop active listening and learn how to make targeted speeches. Using verbal and non-verbal language, they learn to better build their relationship to one another.

    Learning Outcomes:

    • Explore strategies for formal and informal communication in a work environment.
    • Understand the importance and implications of non-verbal communication.
    • Evaluate their communication mode

  • Session 3: Stay connected

     Through a case study and a puzzle, students realize the importance of teamwork and cooperation in the good functioning of a company.

    Learning Outcomes:

    Students will be able to:

    • Understand the importance of cooperation, integrity, respect and teamwork
    • Learn how to join their efforts to achieve a common goal.
    • Self-assess their ability to cooperate.

  • Session 4: Win-Win strategy

    Through teamwork, students apprehend the various conflicts that may arise in the workplace.

    They realize that there are several possible resolutions to these conflicts: win / win, win / lose and lose / lose.

    Learning Outcomes:

    Students will be able to:

    • Develop their ability to resolve conflicts through active listening and appropriate communication modes.
    • Identify and implement win / win strategies for the resolution of tense situations.
    • Evaluate their ability to resolve conflicts.

  • Session 5: Decision Making

     Divided into teams, students participate in a game in which they have to make decisions regarding the resolution of various problems encountered in the professional world.

    Learning Outcomes:

    Students will be able to:

    • Understand the necessary gymnastics to resolve problems in business.
    • Assess their own abilities to solve problems.

  • Session 6: Marketing

     Divided into teams, students reflect on the parallel between product promotion and self-promotion.

    Learning Outcomes:

    Students will be able to:

    • Choose products based on the advertising that is done.
    • Reflect on their personal information and start preparing a resume.

     During this final session, students participate in mock interviews. They review the 16 success skills” seen throughout the program.

    Students will be able to:

    • Identify their personal skills and learn how to highlight them during a job interview.
    • Evaluate the performance and give feedback to other students.
    • Reflect on their experience in the JA Career Success program.

JA Career Success introduces the concepts and develops the following skills:

Notions – how to choose a career, identify one’s talents, make choices, resolve conflicts, cooperate, communicate, evaluate and collect information, build a relationship, teamwork, mock interviews, reflect on and analyze a situation, create synergies, respect personal values.

Skills-active listening, information and points of view analysis, brainstorming, deductive reasoning, written and oral communication, critical thinking, problem solving, evaluation, self-analysis, synthesis, public speaking, teamwork, oral and written communication.

JA Career Success consists of 7 sessions. It is taught by a volunteer,using concrete situations (games, cases, work teams …). It is recommended for students in high school and college.
